A recent edition of USA Today has an article discussing the new Windows 7, and how it may hasten touch screen computers. However, anybody who has used a Mac computer knows that the touchpad on a Mac provides users with everything they need and more. While Windows 7 may hasten touch screen computing, people need to ask themselves if this is a function that they really want on their computer. Many times, what seems to be an advance in technology is really little more than a step in the wrong direction. It could very well be the case that this is precisely what is happening with the touch screen capacities that are built into Windows 7. The following article will provide some insight as to why the touchpad on a Mac will remain superior to touch screen PCs.

Nobody likes a dirty screen. Inevitably, using the screen for a touchpad will leave smudges and smears. The human skin has an oily surface, regardless of when the hands were last washed, thus using fingers on the screen of a computer will leave annoying spots on the screen. Most people would agree that this is not a problem they want to deal with on a daily basis.

A touch screen is inefficient for many things. The touchpad on a Mac is conveniently located so users do not have to lift their hands from the typing position to utilize it. This only makes sense, and requiring users to reach up and touch their screen will only make the computing experience less efficient. Sure, a touch screen may be simpler to understand for somebody who has never used a computer, but who in this day and age has no experience with a touchpad?

The touchpad on a Mac does everything that a touch screen will be able to do. Windows boasts that the touch screen capacities make it possible for users to enlarge and shrink, as well as rotate items on the screen. This surely sounds familiar to Mac users, as these are functions that users are already readily able to perform with the touchpad of their MacBook or Mac computer. Windows 7 touch screen capacities will only work with additional hardware. As with most other applications on a PC, the touch screen will only work with hardware that is not necessarily made by Windows. This means that there is just one more point in the computing process where things can go wrong. With MacBooks and Macs, all of the hardware and software that the computer needs to operate are made by Apple, so users can count on efficient communication between the components of the computer.

The touch screen has yet to be tested by the public. The truth of the matter is that the touch screen has not been tested by mass quantities of people. Its benefits are purely speculative so people would be foolish to trade the certainty of a Mac for the possibility of a touch screen on a PC.

People should be leery of Windows 7 until it is proven to function well. After all, Windows Vista was touted to be the next great thing until people began using it and found all sorts of problems. Apple computers have yet to present people with the problems of PCs, making Macs and MacBooks the best bet for consumers.
