Browsing iPod Car Accessories

The Apple Store is home to a vast range of Apple products and accessories, many of which are official Apple technology, while others are from outside companies. Among the many shopping categories at the Apple Store is iPod Car Accessories, which in and of itself contains a plethora of useful devices that can be used to upgrade an iPod.

To begin with, an iPod can be much more than merely an iPod with the right accessories. While Apple’s iPod was certainly designed with the idea of providing portable music in mind, there are certain accessories that take the iPod to a whole new level. The iPod dock, of course, is one of the more common devices that people use to turn a portable music player into something of broader utility. And, the next level up is adding the right car accessory to carry the sounds of an iPod through the speakers of a car.

There are three general types of car accessories that iPod owners can use to send their iPod through their car speakers. The first type of accessory is a cassette player, which plugs into the iPod and plays through a car’s tape cassette player. While this type of device provides high quality sound, the number one issue that people run into is that many newer models of cars are not equipped with tape cassette players, and without one, this type of device simply does not work.

For those who do not have a tape cassette player in their car, however, there is no reason to fret. A second type of accessory plugs into the iPod and sends a signal directly to the car’s radio receiver to play the iPod through the car’s speakers. Some people will argue that this type of accessory does not provide as high a sound quality as the tape cassette player accessory, but it nevertheless provides a good alternative for those with only a CD player in their car. The big problem with this type of accessory is that they sometimes don’t work well in larger cities where a vacant radio station is hard to come by. You see, in order for this device to function well, it needs a radio station that is free of other signals, and many larger cities are devoid of such stations.

Finally, the third major type of iPod car accessory is a direct cable. Many newer model cars have a direct line for mp3 players, either directly into the dash, or into the center console. For owners of such cars, the direct cable is by and large the best alternative. It connects the iPod directly to the car’s sound system, with or without a cassette player, and without the trouble of finding a vacant channel.

IPod owners who have yet to purchase an iPod car accessory are simply not getting the maximum use of their iPod. Everybody knows the agony of channel surfing in traffic, without finding anything to listen to on the radio. With an iPod car accessory, this problem is altogether eliminated.
