Choosing Between the Macs

Computer_Media_BackgroundWhen the time comes to buy a new computer, the easy decision is whether to go with a Mac or a PC. Almost without fail, people with experience on both will tell you that the Macintosh is superior to the PC. For reasons such as user friendliness, intuitive features and sleek design, most people agree that Mac computers are the way to go. The tougher decision, however, is which Mac computer to go with. The following brief descriptions provide insight on all of the computers in the Mac line up:

1. MacBook: For a computer that is priced at under a thousand dollars, the MacBook is at the front of its class. Like other Mac notebooks, the MacBook is assembled with a unibody casing to ensure durability and functionality. It features a LED display that promises to display brilliant graphics. And definitely not least importantly, the battery life on a MacBook provides power for up to seven hours. The MacBook is by and large the best base level notebook that you will find for your money.

2. MacBook Pro: The MacBook Pro provides you with many of the same features of the MacBook, but with more options and an improved design. The Pro provides the same extended battery life as the MacBook, as well as the brilliant LED display. However, the Pro comes standard with an aluminum casing which not only adds to the aesthetics of the notebook, but also shaves pounds off, making it one of the lightest lines of notebooks available. Also, the Pro is available in three sizes, so whatever your notebook needs are, there is a Pro for you.

It is the thinnest and lightest Mac notebook available and it is priced starting at under $1,500. Like the other MacBooks, the Air features brilliant LED lighting. One thing you should understand about the Air, however, is that it does not burn DVDs or CDs unless connected to an external port — this is the trade off for getting the lightest and thinnest computer available.

4. iMac: The iMac desktop computer is unique in that everything required is housed in one aluminum casing. This eliminates any need for wires and frees up a lot of space and clutter on your desktop. The iMac is available in two sizes, both of which are under $1,700.

5. Mac Pro: This is for serious computer users, as it is the fastest of all Mac computers. The processors on the new Mac Pro are almost twice as fast as last year’s model, and quickness and efficiency will never be an issue with this model. The Mac Pro is a bit on the costly side, starting right around $2,500 (not including the monitor), but well worth it if you are an avid computer user.

6. Mac Mini: Not only is the Mini the smallest of the Macs, but it is the cheapest Mac desktop as well. The mini starts at under $600, but here again this does not include the monitor. If you already have a monitor, the Mini provides an excellent alternative.

The bottom line is that with Mac computers, there really is not a bad choice. You are choosing between excellent computers no matter how you look at it, so it is really just a question of what you need.
