After much anticipation, June 24th finally arrived, and the new iPhone, iPhone 4, finally became available to consumers around the country. To those who have been waiting for the new iPhone to hit the shelves of the Apple Store, it felt like an excruciatingly long time between when Steve Jobs announced the forthcoming arrival of the new iPhone and June 24th. But the anticipation and long waiting are sure to pay off for those who got their hands on an iPhone 4 on the day of its release. While there was enough talk about the new iPhone to believe that everybody in the country was waiting in line on June 24th, there must surely be some who didn’t make it out to purchase a new iPhone on that day. And to inform those people about what the release day was like, this post covers some questions about day one of the new iPhone.

Q: Where can the new iPhone be purchased?

A: The iPhone 4 went on sale at several retailers. The Apple Store, of course, was stocked with new iPhones on June 24th, as were Wal-Marts, Best Buys and Radio Shacks around the country. Of course, the iPhone was also available online for those who preferred not to fight the crowds on release day, but to many, standing in line for a new Apple product is part and parcel of the Apple experience.

Q: AT&T is the only iPhone provider, so can consumers purchase an iPhone directly from an AT&T store?

A: Consumers will be able to purchase iPhones from AT&T locations, but new iPhones will not be available from AT&T until the 29th of June.

Q: How many preorders did Apple take for the new iPhone?

A: Apple took more than 600,000 preorders for the new iPhone, beginning on June 15th.

Q: Did those who preordered the phone get the iPhone 4 any quicker than those who did not preorder the iPhone 4?

A: Most Apple Stores divided their lines into two, those who preordered and those who did not. In most cases, those who preordered their iPhone 4 got their hands on their new device before those who did not. More than anything else, preordering the iPhone 4 assured consumers that they would get their new phone on the 24th.

Q: How long were lines at the Apple Store?

A: Well before Apple Stores began selling iPhones, at 7:00 a.m., there were reports of lines wrapping around the block in some cities. Consumers lined up beginning in the early hours of the morning just to be one of the first lucky few to get their hands on the iPhone 4. To accommodate the lines, many Apple Stores served complimentary coffee and water.

Q: Will the new iPhone measure up to its expectations?

A: While the answer to this question is yet to be known for certain, all signs indicate that this iPhone will be the best iPhone yet. There have been a host of significant improvements made to the iPhone 4, and consumers should be pleased to finally have the new iPhone.
