Macs in the Workplace

For quite some time, Macs were thought of as specialty computers, and not as the type of machine to be used in the run of the mill business place. Over the years, however Apple has established a name for Macs in the workplace. Ultimately, the very things that have helped Macs become the most intuitive and advanced computers for the home have also helped Macs establish a reputation in the business world as well. In addition to other reasons, Apple provides the following ten reasons to choose a Mac in the workplace (provided in full at www.apple.com).

1.   Microsoft Office users will “feel right at home with iWork.” Documents created in Office are compatible with those created in iWork. And, like most other Apple products, iWork is highly intuitive, and provides easy to use tools for creating design-quality documents.

2.   iLife helps business people say “bye-bye boring.” With iLife, Mac users can readily create web pages, organize photos, and ultimately simplify their business.

3.   Macs “play well with others.” In other words, Mac users have no problem using their Mac in a predominately PC work place. Macs can quickly open and read most files available on PCs, and file sharing with PCs is not a problem.

4.   Sharing printers on a network is never a problem, even when the network is PC-based.

5.   Mac users can count on “kissing clutter goodbye.” Business people who have made the switch to a Mac agree that they are equipped to get jobs done quickly. From peeking at a document without even opening its application to browsing through files with Cover Flow, Mac users tend to shave the seconds from their work in numerous ways.

6.   Time machine provides quick reference to the past. With Apple’s Time Machine, business people can automatically save the content of their computer to an external hard drive, and then go back and check the drive at a later date if needed for reference.

7.   Windows is available on Macs. With software by the name of Boot Camp, it is possible to run Windows applications from a Mac without a glitch. Moreover, Microsoft Office is available in its entirety with Office for Macintosh, so those who prefer to use Microsoft Office can do so.

8.   With iChat, business people can save expenses on traveling and telephonic conferencing. Every Mac computer is equipped right out of the box with iChat, so Mac users can instantly connect to associates around the globe to discuss important ideas and concepts. With iChat, business people can accomplish in a virtual world, what used to cost thousands in business travel expenses.

9.   Macs are safer than PCs. It is reported that nearly 260,000 viruses threaten PCs. Macs, on the other hand, are renowned for being free from viruses, making them the safe and wise choice for serious business people.

10.  The cool factor. No discussion of Mac computers would be complete without mentioning the indescribable “it” that makes an Apple an Apple. Macs sleekness on the outside is only paralleled by their functional capacity on the inside, and business people get it all when they take their Mac in the workplace.
