NEWMAC FIELD HOCKEY ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS ANNOUNCED
November 11, 2003 – Mount Holyoke senior back Lauren Weiner (Kensington,
Md.) was voted the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic
Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Player of the Year by the conference
coaches today. Mount Holyoke head coach Andy Whitcomb was named the
coach of the year and Babson freshman midfielder Andrea Tufts (Wolfeboro,
N.H.) was named the top rookie as the NEWMAC also announced its 22-member
all-conference team.
Weiner leads the
NEWMAC with 38 points, including a conference-best 18 assists. She helped
the Lyons to their second conference championship and a berth in the
NCAA Division III Tournament in the last three years.
Whitcomb garnered
her second coach-of-the-year award in three years after leading Mount
Holyoke to the NEWMAC Championship. The Lyons will travel to Salisbury
(Md.) University for a second round match of the NCAA Division III Tournament
on Friday, Nov. 14.
Tufts, who is tied
for 10th in the conference in goals scored, is a member of a Babson
offense which leads the NEWMAC in scoring average (3.16 gpg).
