NEWMAC Announces Men's Soccer Postseason Honors

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC)
announced its men's soccer post-season awards on Tuesday, and both regular season
champion Wheaton College and tournament champion Babson College had three players
selected to the All-Conference First Team.
Representing Wheaton on the All-NEWMAC First Team was senior midfielder Shaun
Cavanaugh (Botsford, Conn.), who was also named the NEWMAC Player of the Year
for the second consecutive season, senior Dan Antoniuk (Philadelphia, Pa.),
and senior Hans Ingram (St. Maarten, N.A.). For Babson, senior Jonah Frisch
(Los Angeles, Calif.), junior Shaun Dowell (Vienna, Va.), and junior goalie
Tom Malloy (Newtown, Conn.) each received First Team honors.
Along with Wheaton and Babson, regular season and tournament runner-up MIT received
numerous honors on Tuesday. Junior Nick Nestle (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and junior
Rory Foster (Madison, Wisc.) were each named to the All-Conference First Team,
and first-year Walter Song (Carrollton, Texas) was chosen as the NEWMAC Rookie
of the Year. In addition, head coach Walter Alessi was named the NEWMAC Coach
of the Year after guiding the Engineers to a 10-6-1 record and a berth in the
ECAC Tournament.
Rounding out the NEWMAC All-Conference First Team were senior Brett Oberacker
(Bethel, Conn.) of Springfield College and seniors Joe Goncalves (Ludlow, Mass.)
and Mark Dion (Plymouth, Mass.) of WPI.
