2002 NEWMAC SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT
Clark Beats Coast Guard, 7-1 in Second Semifinal Round Game

NORTON, MA- Freshman Sarah McArdle (Westford, MA/Westford Academy)
smashed a grand slam in the sixth inning, her first home run of the
year, to lead Clark to a 7-1 victory over Coast Guard in the second
semifinal round contest of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic
Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament at Clark Field.

The Cougars will face Springfield in this afternoon's final contest,
while the Bears will play host Wheaton in game three.

Coast Guard's Beth Newton (Woodstock, GA) began the contest with a
walk, advanced to second on a groundout to third and eventually scored
on a double by Leslie Kagami (Honolulu, HI) to give the Bears a 1-0
lead, which they held through three innings. Clark knotted it up in
the bottom of the fourth after Jen Scavone (Worcester, MA/Holy Name)
scored from second off Laura Gagnon's (East Hampton, CT/Mercy) triple
down the right field line. Gagnon later scored on a Coast Guard error.

Clark's Jackie Demore (Essex, MA/Hamilton-Wenham) started the five-run
rally in the sixth with an RBI single through the right side. The
Cougars' Aimee Lee (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) tossed a one-hitter to
improve to 13-5 on the year, striking out seven Bear batters in the victory.
