Guard's Cory Anderson Named Division III National Pitcher of the
Week by NCBWA
NEW LONDON,
CONN.--(3/31/05)--Coast Guard Academy junior Cory Anderson has been
named the 2005 NCAA Division III National Pitcher of the Week for
March 21-27 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association
(NCBWA), becoming the first Coast Guard Academy baseball player
to ever win the honor.
Anderson was
named the ECAC New England Pitcher of the Week on Wednesday and
the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Pitcher
of the Week on Monday as he picked up both wins for the Bears in
a 2-1 week.
Anderson was
overpowering this week as he struck out 22 batters in 12 innings
and picked up both of Coast Guard's wins. Anderson pitched 12 innings
and allowed just six hits, one earned run while walking four and
striking out 22. His ERA for the week was 0.75. He pitched a complete
game against Springfield and allowed one earned run, four hits while
walking two and striking out 12. He also worked five innings and
allowed just two hits, no earned runs while striking out 10 against
in a win over Mitchell. Anderson is now 3-0 on the season with a
2.57 ERA and he leads the NEWMAC with 32 strikeouts. |
