Holyoke Hires Basketball Coach Michelle Scecina
SOUTH
HADLEY, Mass. -- Mount Holyoke College Chair of Physical Education
and Director of Athletics Laurie Priest recently announced the appointment
of Michelle Scecina as head basketball coach and lecturer in physical
education. Scecina served as interim coach at Mount Holyoke this
past year, after serving as assistant coach for the previous two
years.
Scecina
had a very successful 2004-05 season as head coach, leading the
Lyons to a record of 21-6 and to their first-ever appearance in
the ECAC Championship semifinals. The team also finished on top
of the regular-season conference standings, another first for Mount
Holyoke basketball.
A
1997 graduate of Springfield College, Scecina was a 1,000-point
scorer, NEWBA All-Star, ECAC All-Star, and All-Time Leading Rebounder
for the Pride. In addition to a bachelor of science degree in physical
education, she also completed a master of education degree in health
studies at Springfield College. Scecina served as assistant basketball
coach at Springfield for three years, where she helped direct the
team to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2001 and to the
regional semifinals in 2002.
Scecina
taught physical education classes at Minnechaug High School for
three years, and at Springfield College for two years. Her wealth
of teaching, coaching and playing experience will greatly benefit
the basketball program and physical education department at Mount
Holyoke.
