Fletcher Brooks
Named Head Coach of Women's Cross Country and Track and Field
Brooks Begins MIT Tenure After Successful Stint at Williams
College

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Concluding a national search, DAPER Department
Head/Director of Athletics, Candace Royer, has named Fletcher Brooks
head coach of the women's cross country and track and field teams
at MIT. Brooks makes the move to Cambridge after serving as the
associate head coach at perennial national power, Williams College.
Brooks brings considerable enthusiasm and experience
to his new position. Following graduation from Allegheny College
where he was Captain and an All-America in track and field, and
a short stint at Dartmouth College assisting the strength and conditioning
coach, Brooks earned his Master's degree in Physical Education,
in Advanced-Level Coaching. For the past seven years, Brooks has
been at Williams College, working in both the areas of track and
field and strength and conditioning. In 2001, Brooks was appointed
associate head track and field coach for the women and men's teams
and assumed duties for scheduling and managing meets, lining up
officials and ordering team equipment.
Over the last five years, Brooks' responsibilities
have expanded from the throws to include all the field events as
well as the combined events. He has established an enviable record
of success with his athletes. During Brooks' time at Williams, women's
track and field won seven consecutive New England Championships,
and he has personally coached athletes to 46 All-America honors,
including three women's national champions and one men's national
champion.
"I have personally gained so much from good
coaching and have tried these past nine years to bring 100% of myself
to coaching others. What a wonderful opportunity it is to be able
to do this at MIT, one of the world's great universities and with
such intelligent athletes and some of the finest facilities anywhere.
It excites me to think of the possibilities for the women's cross
country and track and field programs".
Brooks is a certified Level II coach in the throws,
jumps, sprints, hurdles and combined events and is currently progressing
toward Level III certification. He is also certified as a strength
and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning
Association.
