BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Babson College has announced the hiring
of a new Director of Athletics, as Johns Hopkins University Associate
Athletics Director Josh MacArthur will assume the role beginning
on August 7.
MacArthur
has served as the Associate Director of Athletics at Johns Hopkins
University in Baltimore for the past four years. Before that he
spent seven years at Dartmouth College, working in two positions
within athletic facilities and operations, as well as one year at
the University of Pennsylvania.
“We
are very excited to have Josh here at Babson,” said Carol
Hacker, Associate Vice President of Student and Community Services.
“His commitment to planning and evaluation, staff development,
and the experience for student-athletes and the overall community
of recreation users is beyond comparison.
“He
is committed to the Division III philosophy and has successfully
balanced this with a competitive program for all teams at JHU. He
understands fully the demands of a rigorous academic program and
articulates the value of not only intercollegiate athletics, but
also recreation and wellness, for a successful overall student experience,”
she added.
MacArthur
holds a Master’s Degree in Sports Management from the University
of Richmond and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hobart College. He
also completed the Senior Executive Program at the Sports Management
Institute in 2001. He played soccer for two years at Hobart and
later spent three years as an assistant soccer coach at William
Smith College.
“I
couldn’t be more excited to be at Babson,” MacArthur
said. “It was obvious from my first day on campus that Babson
is a special place with great people. It has such a fantastic academic
reputation and the athletic program has enjoyed a great deal of
success. I look forward to the challenges ahead and working to achieve
a student-athlete experience that mirrors the College’s reputation
for excellence.”
Judy
Blinstrub, who served as the Acting AD for the last 12 months, will
resume her position as Associate Athletics Director while continuing
to coach women’s basketball.
Babson
is recognized internationally for its entrepreneurial leadership
in a changing global environment. The College’s Athletics
Department sponsors 22 varsity programs — 11 for women and
11 for men — as well as numerous intramural and club sports.
The majority of Babson teams compete in the New England Women’s
and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), with others competing
in the ECAC East (ice hockey), USCSA (alpine skiing), and Pilgrim
League (men’s lacrosse).
