Mount Holyoke College Chair of Physical
Education and Director of Athletics Laurie Priest recently announced
the appointment of Michelle Scecina as head basketball coach
and lecturer in physical education. Scecina served as interim
coach at Mount Holyoke this past year, after serving as assistant

appointment of two head coaches. Peer Nasseir will assume the
position of head volleyball coach and lecturer in physical education
starting July 1st, 2005, while interim squash coach Pamela Saunders
has been rehired as the head squash coach and lecturer in physical

Harris, a team captain, has a 3.65 GPA as an
Operations Research major and earned All-New England honors

The Wheaton College
baseball team will make a return to the NCAA Division III Tournament
for the fifth time in six seasons, as the Lyons plated three
runs in the top half of the 11th inning Monday afternoon to
defeat a resilient Springfield College team, 9-6, in thrilling
fashion in the tournament championship.

College Captures Second Straight NEWMAC Women's Rowing Championship |

Defending
NEWMAC champion Smith College reclaimed the championship trophy,
as the Smith Varsity 8 boat finished first versus its NEWMAC
rivals. Smith College, winners of all three varsity races, also
claimed the Florence Jope Smith cup, given to the institution
earning the most points at the championship. Mount Holyoke College's
Novice 8 edged Smith for a first place finish. |

Anderson Named Division III National Pitcher of the Week by

Coast Guard
Academy junior Cory Anderson has been named the 2005 NCAA Division
III National Pitcher of the Week for March 21-27 by the National
Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), becoming the
first Coast Guard Academy baseball player to ever win the honor.

College junior Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) was crowned national
champion in both 1- and 3-meter diving to lead the Pride to
a ninth place finish at the NCAA Championships. MIT finished
tenth overall, equaling its best result in the team standings
since 1984. Four of Tech's relays finished among the top ten.

Doria Holbrook won the national title in three-meter diving
at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships
after securing the bronze in the one-meter event just two days
earlier. Not to be outdone, junior Uzoma Orji powered the Engineers
at the NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships,
setting a national record en route to first place in the weight
throw. |
| Springfield's Bid for Women's
Basketball Final Four Falls Short |

Springfield
College's quest towards the NCAA National Championship stopped
just short of the Final Four, as the Pride fell to host Southern
Maine, 80-69, in the quarterfinals of the Division III Women's
Basketball Tournament.
On the
men's side, WPI concluded their outstanding season on Friday
night in the NCAA sectionals, falling to York, 99-80. WPI
finished with a 24-4 record, setting a WPI record for most
wins in a season. (Previous: 20 wins, '84-85, '03-04)

led all schools with three players voted onto the All-Conference
team. Clark sophomore Ashley Auclair was voted NEWMAC Player
of the Year. Auclair received Rookie of the Year honors last
year. |
