Paul Phillips Named Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Clark
Clark University’s Athletic Director Linda Moulton announced the hiring and return of Paul Phillips as head men’s basketball coach. Phillips returns to Clark after two years as the Dean of Students at St. John’s High School.

Wheaton Adds Dave Cox to Athletic Training Staff, DiSilvestri Promoted
Wheaton College has announced the hiring of Dave Cox as assistant athletic trainer, effective August 14, 2006. Cox's addition comes after Adam Eastwood resigned to accept a sales position at Surgi-Care, Inc. With Eastwood's departure, assistant Kathy DiSilvestri was promoted to associate athletic trainer. MIT's Lentz Named Winner of CSTV's Diane Geppi-Aikens Scholarship
Deanna Lentz, MIT's Woman Athlete of the Year, was named the winner of CSTV's third annual Diane Geppi-Aikens Scholarship. The $5,000 scholarship was awarded by CSTV's Executive Vice President, Tim Pernetti, at the Tewaaraton Trophy Awards Ceremony on June 1 at the National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C. (more)

Wheaton Baseball Completes Monumental Season with Loss in National Title Game
The Wheaton College baseball team's quest for a national championship fell just short Tuesday at the NCAA Division III Tournament, as the Lyons completed their monumental season with a 7-2 loss to Marietta College at Fox Cities Stadium. Wheaton reached the title game in just its ninth year of varsity action, surpassing the program record with 42 wins while finishing their most successful season with a 42-10 mark. Wheaton's journey including capturing an eighth New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season championship, seventh conference tournament title, first New England crown and inaugural appearance in a national championship. MacArthur Named New Athletics Director At Babson College

Babson College has announced the hiring of a new Director of Athletics, as Johns Hopkins University Associate Athletics Director Josh MacArthur will assume the role beginning on August 7. (more)

Clark University Names Qualls Sports Information Director
Clark University Athletic Director Linda Moulton recently announced the hiring of Dalya Qualls as Clark’s full-time Sports Information Director. Qualls replaces Head Women’s Soccer Coach and current Sports Information Director Joe Brady. (more)

Clark University’s Administrative Intern Kelly Accepts Position at Mitchell College
Stacy Kelly, an administrative intern at Clark University of Worcester, MA for the past two years, recently accepted the Associate Director of Athletics position at Mitchell College in New London, CT. The internship was part of the NCAA Division III Ethnic/Women’s Minority Internship grant program. (more)

Hyer Retires as Head Lacrosse Coach at Mount Holyoke College
Mount Holyoke Director of Athletics and Chair of Physical Education Laurie Priest recently announced Mike Hyer's retirement as head lacrosse coach after 20 years at the helm. Hyer will remain as senior lecturer in physical education for one more year. Head Soccer Coach and Assistant Lacrosse Coach Jennifer Seferiadis will serve as interim lacrosse coach for the 2006-2007 academic year. (more)

Barry Steps Down as Coast Guard Baseball Coach
C.C. Grant Named Head Coach
Pete Barry, who has been the head baseball coach at the Coast Guard Academy for the past seven seasons, stepped down on Monday to concentrate on his duties as the head basketball coach. He will be succeeded by C.C. Grant, an assistant under Barry for the past seven seasons. (more)

WPI Engineers Outlast MIT En Route to Second NEWMAC Men's Basketball Championship
Ryan Flynn tallied a team-high 20 points on 7-of-7 shooting as host WPI captured its second consecutive NEWMAC Tournament Championship with a 69-56 victory over MIT on Sunday afternoon. Springfield College's Derek Yvon Reaches 2,000 Points
Springfield College senior guard Derek Yvon (East Longmeadow, Mass.) reached the 2,000-point mark and later became the school's all-time leading scorer in the Pride's 83-67 win against Clark. Yvon, a graduate of Cathedral High School, needed 28 points to surpass former Pride standout Hassan Robinson (’95), and the senior guard did just that, netting a game-best 29 points as he now has accumulated 2,005 points to date in his illustrious career. >>FULL STORY

WPI Annouces Hiring of New Assisant Athletics Director/Sports Information Director
WORCESTER, Mass - Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has announced the hiring of Charles "Rusty" Eggen as its new Assistant Athletics Director and Sports Information Director. Eggen, who replaces long-time SID Steve Raczynski, will assume duties in early January.

Lyons Will Face Tufts in Sectional Semifinal at Oneonta State
NORTON, MA- For the fourth consecutive season and fifth time in six years, the Wheaton College women's soccer team has advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Lyons, who are ranked 20th nationally and third in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), will face Tufts University in a sectional semifinal Saturday at Oneonta State College (NY) at 1:30 p.m. In nine years at Wheaton, head coach Luis Reis has compiled an overall mark of 175-27-6 (.856), placing him among the nation's elite for highest winning percentage among active women's soccer coaches in Division III. >>FULL STORY

Elise Conley nets three goals in victory
Senior tri-captain Elise Conley (Shrewsbury, Mass.), the nation's Division III leading scorer and the NEWMAC player of the year, scored three goals, including the game-winner, to lead the host Babson College Beavers to a 5-2 victory over the visiting Utica College Pioneers in the opening round of the 2005 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship Tournament. The Smith Pioneers were upset in first round action of the NCAA Division III New England Regionals losing to Colby Sawyer 3-1. The Wheaton College women's soccer team has qualified for its sixth consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament, as the Lyons will oppose Worcester State College on Saturday while hosting a four-team regional at Mirrione Stadium. Following a spectacular season that included an 18-5 record and a trip to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament finals, the Babson College field hockey team has received an at-large bid to the 2005 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. NEWMAC Announces Women's Tennis All-Conference Team
The conference regular season and tournament champion, Wellesley College, led the way with six First Team selections and three Second Team honorees. In addition, Wellesley sophomore Jenna Mezin (Maui, Hawaii) was named NEWMAC Athlete of the year, while head coach Christine Franek was selected as the NEWMAC Coach of the Year. MIT Names Krista Fulton New Women's Soccer Coach
It was announced by MIT Director of Athletics, Candace Royer, that Krista Fulton has been tabbed to lead MIT's women's soccer program. Fulton, who was a member of two Ivy League championship teams, takes over the reigns of a growing program after serving one season as head coach for Framingham State. (more)

MIT Director of Athletics, Candace Royer, has named Fletcher Brooks head coach of the women's cross country and track and field teams at MIT. Brooks makes the move to Cambridge after serving as the associate head coach at perennial national power, Williams College. (more)

Louise O’Neal, Director of Athletics at Wellesley College, has announced that Rebecca Bruce has been named Head Field Hockey Coach and Assistant Professor of Physical Education beginning Fall 2005. Bruce comes to Wellesley from Connecticut College where she served as the assistant Field Hockey and Lacrosse coach. (more)

Louise O’Neal, Director of Athletics at Wellesley College, has announced that Julia Bergofsky has been named Head Lacrosse Coach and Assistant Professor of Physical Education beginning Fall 2005. Bergofsky comes to Wellesley from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland where she was the Head Lacrosse Coach and the coordinator for the Goucher College Student Athlete Mentor (SAM) Program. (more)

Louise O’Neal, Director of Athletics at Wellesley College, has announced that Teresa Spillane has been named Head Rowing Coach and Assistant Professor of Physical Education beginning Fall 2005. Spillane comes to Wellesley from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, where she served as the Head Coach of Men’s and Women’s Rowing. (more)
Springfield Graduate, Rob Southall, Named Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at WPI
Rob Southall has been named an assistant men’s basketball coach at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, according to WPI Head Coach Chris Bartley. A native of Windsor, CT, Southall graduated from Springfield College in 2002 with a bachelor of science degree in Movement Studies. He then served as a graduate assistant coach at Springfield for two years, earning his masters degree in Physical Education in 2004. (more)
Wheaton College Elevates Dietz to Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations
Wheaton College Executive Director of Athletics Chad Yowell has announced the promotion of Scott Dietz to Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations. Dietz has been employed as Wheaton's Sports Information Director since July of 2000. "Having the opportunity to announce this promotion shows that excellent work, tireless effort and being a total team player truly does pay off," said Yowell. "I would be hard-pressed to find an employee more deserving of such a promotion. I look forward to working with Scott in his new role as part of the management team of the athletic department." Wheaton College Hires Kelli Myers as Head Women's Volleyball Coach
Wheaton College Executive Director of Athletics, Chad Yowell, has announced the hiring of Kelli Myers as head women's volleyball coach, effective August 15, 2005. Myers replaces Elizabeth Rey, who resigned after four seasons with the Lyons. Myers was the head women's volleyball coach at the University of Connecticut for the past seven years, where she guided the Huskies to five Big East Championship appearances during her tenure. Leading UConn to a share of the regular season conference championship in 1998, Myers finished her Husky career with the second-highest number of coaching wins in program history with a 134-78 record.
