NEWMAC Announces 2006 All-Conference Softball Team
Babson’s Meg Gaskell Named Player of the Year & Pitcher of the Year
WPI’s Nicole Maglione Named Rookie of the Year
Babson’s Dave Canan Named Coach of the Year

Worcester, Mass. -- Babson junior pitcher/outfielder Meg Gaskell (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Year. Gaskell, who also earned first-team all-conference honors, led the Beavers to a 33-10 record and their second straight conference championship and trip to the NCAA Tournament. This is her straight appearance on the first team.

Babson Head Coach Dave Canan was named NEWMAC Coach of the Year as Babson took three of the four major awards. WPI first-year outfielder/infielder Nicole Maglione (Charlton, MA/St. Peter Marian) was named Rookie of the Year.

Gaskell ranked in the top ten in seven statistical NEWMAC categories, first in batting average (.409), third in ERA (.93), fifth in home runs (3), third in RBI (28), fourth in doubles (11), fifth in strikeouts (114) and second in winning percentage (17-4, .810). Maglione ranked 11th in the NEWMAC in batting average (.349), second in home runs (4), seventh in doubles (10), third in runs scored (32), third in stolen bases (14) and third in triples (3). She was also named to the all-conference second team.
