Captures Seventh Straight NEWMAC Women's Swimming & Diving
Championship
WELLESLEY,
Mass. – Springfield netted its seventh straight New England
Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Swimming
and Diving Championship on Sunday evening in Wellesley College’s
Chandler Pool. The Pride, who finished with 812.5
points, capped off the three-day, 20 event championship
with seven first place finishes. MIT captured second
place with 717.5 points with six top finishes on the weekend.
Wellesley nabbed third with 612 points, while Wheaton was
on the host’s heels with 602.5 points for a fourth place

On
the final night of competition, the 2007 NEWMAC Women’s
Swimming and Diving Champions earned wins in four of the
evening’s seven events. The Pride’s Emily Sheahan
took the 1650-yard freestyle in a time of 17:45.79, while Kallie
Pottle captured first in the 200-yard backstroke in
2:08.58. Both wins granted the swimmers NCAA “B”
cuts in their respective events. Springfield’s Moira
Price set a new conference record in the 200-yard
breaststroke with a NCAA “A” cut time of 2:20.95.
Pottle’s and Price’s wins marked their second on the
weekend as Pottle won the 100 backstroke on Saturday
evening, finishing in 1:00.46 and Price took top honors in
the 100 breaststroke with an NCAA “B” cut time of
1:06:38. Pottle and Price then combined with Meaghan
O’Hara and Julianne McCormick to win the
400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:36.00. In
diving action, MIT’s Doria Holbrook won the 3-Meter
event, scoring 514.85. Holbrook had won 1-Meter event
earlier in the weekend.
