Women’s Tennis All-Conference Team Announced
BABSON
PARK, Mass. — The New England Women’s and Men’s
Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its women’s tennis
post-season awards on Tuesday, and the conference’s regular
season and tournament champion Wellesley College led the way with
seven First Team selections and one Second Team honoree. In addition,
Wellesley junior Jenna Mezin (Maui, Hawaii) was named NEWMAC Athlete
of the Year for the second straight season, head coach Christine
Franek repeated as the NEWMAC Coach of the Year, and Wellesley claimed
the inaugural NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award. MIT first-year Leslie
Hansen (Fairfax, Va.) was also honored, as she was chosen as the
NEWMAC Rookie of the Year.
Wellesley
swept the First Team singles positions, highlighted by Mezin’s
selection at number one, sophomore Jennifer Schwarzkopf (Hinsdale,
Ill.) at number two, junior Hali Walther (Samammish, Wash.) at number
three, sophomore Alex Lucas (Leawood, Kan.) at number four, first-year
Meghan Stubblebine (Pittsburgh, Pa.) at number five, and first-year
Mohana Siddique (Chevy Chase, Md.) at number six. Mezin and Walther
rounded out Wellesley’s First Team selections at number one
doubles, while junior Mariah Hoover (Orlando, Fla.) and Yi Wang
(Woddinville, Wash.) of MIT were named at second doubles and senior
Aleksandra Mihailovic (Sibenik, Croatia) and junior Meaghan Sloane
(Concord, Mass.) were selected at third doubles.
