On June 16, Apple posted iTunes 9.2 online for consumers to download. And while the new version of iTunes has yet to take off, it won’t be long until every iTunes user has iTunes 9.2 installed to their Macs. While iTunes 9.2 shouldn’t be too big an adjustment for those who are familiar with iTunes, there are definitely some changes and improvements that Apple has implemented. The following features are brand new to iTunes (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1056):
1. iTunes 9.2 is compatible with iPhone 4. This means that new iPhone owners will have instant access to iTunes, and will readily be able to enjoy their favorite television shows, music and movies. And, as iPhone owners already know, iTunes can be accessed while on the go.
2. iTunes 9.2 makes it possible for those with iOS 4 (new iPhone and iPod Touch) to sync with iBooks 1.1.
3. iTunes 9.2 makes it much easier for users to access and read PDF documents. With iTunes 9.2, it is simple for new iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad owners to organize and sync their PDF documents as books.
4. iTunes 9.2 allows users to organize their applications into folders right from their home screen.
5. iTunes 9.2 is much quicker than previous versions of iTunes when it comes to syncing an iPhone or iPod Touch.
6. iTunes 9.2 is also much quicker when it comes to making user’s artwork appear while exploring their library.
In addition to these new features and improvements, iTunes 9.2 has retained much of what makes iTunes the most widely used music library in the world. For instance, iTunes makes it easier than ever for iTunes users to share their music among their various computers. In other words, iTunes users have no problem transferring music between the computers that belong to their network – be that a MacBook, a Mac or even a PC.
Also noteworthy is iTunes LP, which allows iTunes users to take their appreciation of artists to a whole new level by providing interactive lyrics, photos, and even videos that iTunes users can explore while listening to their favorite albums.
And, of course, no mention of iTunes would be complete without talking about movies and television shows. Many people think of only music when they think of iTunes, but the truth is that iTunes has much more to offer than merely albums (although, there is no larger online database of music on the Web). iTunes is home to all of the hottest new releases when it comes to both movies and television shows. And, unlike waiting for boxed sets, iTunes releases the latest episodes of television shows shortly after they are aired. Users can even subscribe to their favorite series so that they are sure to never miss one.
There is much to be said about iTunes, but chances are great that most Apple enthusiasts are already aware of this fact. iTunes 9.2 is the latest addition to the iTunes saga, and it is definitely worth downloading – especially considering that the download comes at no cost.
